Hiead, it was you first pointed me in the direction of Swords of Might and Musashi, I thank you. I'm pleased with the purchase none the less. Still thought it bore mentioning to have a balanced review. Yeah, Random, those chips were annoying and to be fair, I'm sure Swords of Might would have corrected the situation but it's not that big a deal for me as I use my toys rough anyhow. btw, where did you order you elite from? Thanks for the good words. (I had to look up yokote, boshi, and ha) Love learning new things. Larry, nothing to those spotches, I should have cleaned it up better before posting, they wiped off. This katana far exceeded my expectations for the price. Tough too as you can see in the vid I wacked my stand pretty hard and clipped the cap on that milk jug without any damage at all to the blade. Even with my limited experience it cut well. Deluxe stand included.Īfter cutting I see what all the ado is about katana. Katana fits tight in the saya, no rattle. Tsuba - brass antiqued, dragon and wind design. in my opinon QC shouldn't have missed these, two points off finish. The only downside was two chips in the saya near the throat. I am surprized at what you can get for less than a hundred dollars. I was impressed with the feel and look of the katana. The blade was scary sharp and carbon steel. The blade was coated in nice protective coat of oil. It arrived in a plastic bag inside a fancy box incased in foam peanuts surrounded by a cardboard box.

I ordered it on sunday night for a purchase price of $79 minus a store discount, minus the SBG discount, After much soul searching and consultation with fellow forumites The abundance of reviews for Japanese type swords has finally drew me to the dark side and I decided I ordered a wooden saya for mine and once I replace the same with real same and wrap the handle, I think I will love this sword.Review of the Musashi Wind Dragon Katana by Richard Williams of Evansville Indiana USA.
MUSASHI WIND DRAGON KATANA SWORD UPGRADE
Just be aware that you might want to upgrade the tsuka or even the saya. So if I like it, most likely you will too. But I like expensive swords and want them to be perfect. I really like it.įor the money there is nothing wrong with this sword. It looks about the same and feels about the same. The blade on this sword compares with that one. It was really high quality, but it was too small for me so I sold it after 20 years. I had an expensive (2K) dull katana many years ago. The length is a little longer than they told me it would be. The ito doesn't come apart from use so if you are not really picky, the handle is fine. But it does stay in place and the diamonds are mostly even. It's not high quality silk or even cotton, and so it feels kind of rough. As for the handle wrapping, it's not bad. I am going to rewrap it and replace the synthetic same anyway. I was disappointed that the same isn't real like the ad claimed, but for the price, I don't mind. The habaki hits the mouth of the saya and that is were most of the noise comes from, but if you press the back of the blade down and push the tip up as you reach the end, it will go in nicely. Just press the back side of the blade downward against the opening as you push it in and that cuts out most of the noise. You can control that a lot by how you put it away. The problem is that the blade clunks around and makes a lot of noise when you put the sword away. It looks and feels like a wooden saya but it's not. You can hardly feel it compared to a cutting blade. Anyway, this sword is so light that balance doesn't matter. Swords that are heavy seem to be out of balance more than lighter ones.

They talk about balance with swords, but in the 40 years I have used them, I think it is more a question of weight. So this one is short but feels good to use. I like an 11" handle and a 29" or 30" blade. The blade is 28 1/4" long and the tsuka is 10 3/4" long which I am happy about. This sword was better than I expect, but you need to know some things about it before you buy.

And now that I am getting older and have arthritis, I need to be more carful. I didn't want to risk getting injured using my real sword which is a competition cutting sword (a Last Legend Tsunami). I bought this sword just to have something I could practice difficult twirls and fast draws with.
